Who’d have thought that in 2019 we’d find someone who has never tried sushi… When we heard that our new assistant had never tried it, we sent her off to Japango.
What surprised us was how understated Japango is; from the basic exterior and small lot size, to the dark wood, clunky packed-together tables and chairs, it certainly made us feel well within our comfort zone as first-time sushi triers.
The waitress who served us was understanding of our newbie status, she helped us navigate round the menu and even recommended we try their signature Japango roll. A simple California inside topped with salmon, seared scallop, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, a little tobiko and microgreens. Its soft, creamy texture went down a treat!
Their tempura rolls and beef dumplings were also fresh and complimented well with their dipping sauces. They both provided a satisfying crunchy texture and the dumplings dipping sauce had a subtle kick!
While we were feeling adventurous, we needed something staple that would fill us up and ordered Oyoko Don. This soul satisfying comfort food was sweeter than what we expected, but its portion size was big enough to fill the two of us up, leaving Japango feeling proud and full.
