Canada Post Is Ending Door-to-Door Delivery in the GTA. When Will Your Neighbourhood Be Affected?

Canada Post Is Ending Door-to-Door Delivery in the GTA. When Will Your Neighbourhood Be Affected?

Your mail might not be coming to your front door forever.

Canada Post is rolling out a major change that will see traditional door-to-door mail delivery replaced by community mailboxes across the Greater Toronto Area over the next five years.

The first Toronto neighbourhoods to be affected are in North Etobicoke, where approximately 18,000 households with postal codes beginning with M9V and M9W are scheduled to make the switch on November 16, 2026.

But that’s just the beginning. Here’s a look at when other GTA communities can expect the change.

When Is Your Neighbourhood Switching?

According to the schedule shared with CP24, the transition will happen in stages:

  • November 2026: North Etobicoke (M9V, M9W)
  • September 2027: Ajax and Pickering
  • October–November 2027: Brampton and parts of Mississauga
  • September 2028: Burlington
  • October–November 2028: Most of Scarborough and central/south Mississauga
  • September–November 2029: South Etobicoke, southwest Scarborough, Midtown, Leaside, North Toronto, Don Mills and East York
  • August–November 2030: Vaughan, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, the Annex, Rosedale, Riverdale and parts of west Toronto
  • September 2031: Remaining areas, including much of North York, the east end and downtown Toronto

These dates are anticipated timelines and may change. Postal code boundaries don’t always line up perfectly with neighbourhood names, so it’s worth checking your exact postal code.

What Does This Mean for Homeowners?

Instead of receiving letters at your front door, you’ll collect your mail from an assigned community mailbox nearby.

Most parcels that fit into the available compartments will also be delivered there. Larger packages and items requiring a signature will still be delivered to your home or sent to a nearby post office for pickup.

Canada Post says residents will receive advance notice before their delivery changes, including information about their new mailbox location and keys.

What About Seniors and Those With Accessibility Needs?

There are accommodations available for people who may have difficulty accessing a community mailbox.

Canada Post’s free Delivery Accommodation Program offers options such as more accessible mailbox compartments, modified features and, in certain circumstances, temporary, seasonal or ongoing home delivery.

How Can You Check Your Area?

The easiest way to find out when your neighbourhood is scheduled to switch is to use Canada Post’s online lookup tool. Simply enter the first three characters of your postal code to see the anticipated conversion date.

The bottom line: This change won’t happen overnight, but it will eventually affect many GTA homeowners. Whether you’re in Etobicoke, Scarborough, the west end or downtown Toronto, it’s worth knowing when your neighbourhood is on the schedule.

Stay informed, and keep an eye on your mailbox for updates from Canada Post.
