Where to Shop for Your Next Bathroom Reno

Where to Shop for Your Next Bathroom Reno

So, you’re planning a reno. If you were like us, you came into the Toronto housing market knowing that staying in the 416 would mean that it would take a little elbow grease to turn your new house into your dream home. But, that’s okay, because the best part of renovating a home is having full control of your finishes, and once you’re done your place will be a perfect reflection of you. With so many great places to shop for finishes in this city (and online), knowing where to start can be really overwhelming. Luckily for you, you found us, and we’ve put together a list of our favourite places to shop for everything you’ll need to finish your bathroom reno.

Tiles

Stone Tile

Stone Tile is an experience from start to finish. The showroom is stunning and almost museum-like. The simplicity of the space allows the product line to speak for itself. Sip a complimentary coffee while you browse their catalogue of natural stone, manufactured tiles, engineered wood and mosaics. Stone Tile’s portfolio includes residential, commercial, and retail work. They are most certainly experts in tile and stone and they have an eye for the beautiful.

The Tile Shoppe

The Tile Shoppe is definitely a more casual shopping experience than the others on this list, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find something lovely there. With three locations across the city and a wide product offering The Tile Shoppe should definitely be on your list of go-to tile stores in Toronto. They sell natural stone, porcelain and ceramic, glass mosaics, flooring, vanities and window coverings. They’re a bit of a one-stop shop.

Olympia

Olympia might be one of the better-known companies we’re showcasing. They’re loved by homeowners and builders alike and they specialize solely in manufactured and natural stone tiles. Their product line is not as cutting-edge as Stone Tile or Surfaces & Co., but they have a lovely selection of contemporary and more traditional solid finishes for your tub surrounds, flooring and backsplashes.

Surfaces & Co.

Surfaces & Co. is definitely the personal favourite on this list. Their line of handmade mosaics, natural stone tiles, ceramic and cement tiles are nothing short of stunning. If you’re looking for a tile with impact and you love bespoke, eclectic interiors, do yourself a favour and head over to Surfaces & Co. to check out their showroom.

***Pro tip – many places offer discounts to contractors, architects, and/or designers***

Bath Fixtures

(Shower controls, faucets, toilets, tubs)

Home Comfort Centre

Home Comfort Centre is worth the drive to Richmond Hill. They carry a number of well-known brands including: Gessi, Grohe, Kohler and Toto. Check them out for faucets, tubs, toilets, and water filtration systems.

Bathworks

Head out to Ajax to check out Bathworks. They are a family-run enterprise that started out of Belleville and pride themselves on their offering of shower heads, faucets, toilets and sinks from companies like Moen, American Standard, Blanco and Delta. Their company motto is “if it’s in your imagination, it’s probably in our showroom”.

Downtown Tile Centre

In addition to their product offering, Downtown Tile Centre offers design consultation services for their clients who require a little more direction. Their staff is helpful and super knowledgeable and their portfolio of work ranges from contemporary style to traditional aesthetic. Check them out for great service and reasonable pricing.

Gingers

Gingers is going to show up a few times on this list. We love them so much and their product offering is very wide. They are a subsidiary of ELTE, which should give you an idea of their quality and style. Their showroom is huge and full of beautiful options for sinks, tubs, toilets, faucets and beyond.

Vanities

Scavolini

Scavolini is best known for their Italian custom kitchens, but they’ve recently introduced a line of bathroom vanities, fixtures and fittings. They truly push the envelope in terms of design and we were expecting to pay top dollar, but were pleasantly surprised that they have options for many different price ranges. The best part of our experience at Scavolini? They make integrating sinks into their vanities much easier than their competition.

Gingers

We told you Gingers would show up again. Gingers offers a variety of contemporary and traditional options for vanities. Check them out for tonnes of stylish options.

Light fixtures

Union Lighting

Does anyone in this city buy lighting without at least checking out Union Lighting’s website? Their product offering is HUGE and truthfully, their website is a little overwhelming as a result. Do yourself a favour and head over to their showroom to shop this company in person. With such a varied and expansive product line they are sure to have something that suits your tastes.

Wayfair

Wayfair was obviously going to make this list. Who doesn’t love shopping from the comfort of their couch, possibly still in pjs? It’s okay. We won’t judge. To say that Wayfair has a huge selection doesn’t do this online home goods store justice. They have EVERYTHING and their pricing is very competitive. There’s something to be said for being able to instantly compare pricing on thousands of different options without driving all over the city.

Schoolhouse Electric

This Portland, Oregan based company strives to create “modern American heirlooms”. Their aesthetic is simple, classic design with high quality materials and American manufacturing. Unfortunately, there aren’t any Canadian showrooms yet, but their product range is available for purchase on their website. Be aware of the US conversion when you’re buying on their site and keep in mind that you’ll need a few weeks to receive your order. We promise they’re worth the wait. If you love simple high-quality design, Schoolhouse Electric can’t be missed.

Gingers

Gingers has so many beautiful options for lighting and a wide variety of sconces. Their aesthetic is a mix of delicate and feminine, and clean contemporary. Check them out if you like textured glass, polished nickel and aged brass.

Mirrors & Hardware

Casson Hardware

We have a serious design crush on Casson Hardware. They are a Toronto-based company founded in 2017 by Canadian architects Megan Cassidy and Jane Son. They carry a beautifully curated collection of home goods and hardware that will definitely get you excited to update your home. Be prepared to spend some money. Their product line is definitely pricey, but if you’re looking for some extra special final touches, Casson Hardware is definitely the place to look.

CB2

Head over to Queen West to check out CB2, or take a look at their website. CB2 offers a range of contemporary home goods at very reasonable prices. Their line is a mix of art deco and mid century inspired pieces and they are sure to add some interest to your new bathroom.

Ginger’s

Along with everything else we’ve already mentioned, Gingers has a seriously extensive line of towel racks, paper holders, wall hooks and other bath hardware. They have a wide variety of finishes and styles, and they are the perfect place to check out for pretty much everything you need to finish and accessorize your new bathroom.

June Home Supply

June Home Supply has a very small, but lovely line of bath hardware and home goods. This Winnipeg-based family run business is giving us serious apothecary vibes and we’re here for it. All of their products look handcrafted and classic. Check out their towel racks, toilet paper holders and wall hooks.

To keep the humidity in check, we recommend the line of Panasonic Whisper bathroom fans. They are quiet and feature a speed selector, that allows you to change the airflow to suit your specific needs.

We hope this list has been helpful and would love to see your finished bathroom renos. Tag us on instagram (@soandco.ca), so we can check them out. And, if you’re looking for something specific that you haven’t been able to find yet, reach out. Our team of reno junkies may know where to find just what you’re looking for.
