What are the 2023 Colour Trends?

What are the 2023 Colour Trends?

Did you know that the hottest colours and trends for Spring and Summer of 2023 are curated long before the end of 2022? The folks over at Pantone (responsible for establishing the universal colour chart) have released the colours projected to walk the runway next year during New York’s fashion week–and some of these are getting us tickled pink! The palette varies from “chaos to quiet” showcasing brights to lights and a few in between. Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute claims a blend of “escapism with reality, wholesomeness, and joy…utility and basic-ness…and an uplifting vital sense of play” that paints the collection.

Once we get an idea of what’s coming out of the fashion world, there’s bound to be a sense of similarity in the home design and decor world, leaving you a rainbow of options to update your home with.

Pantone revealed its highly anticipated colour of the year for 2023: a bold shade of pink christened Viva Magenta. Viva Magenta is the perfect hue to bring a bright and bold energy into homes, fashion, and design. Its versatility allows it to work seamlessly in both contemporary and traditional settings. This bold yet sophisticated shade of pink can be used for statement pieces such as furniture or artwork, or simply used as an accent colour to add a pop of vibrancy!

There really is something for everyone in the collection, providing tropical hues to brighten any space, and calming neutrals to freshen up drab living areas with something on-trend yet classic. Below we share the bold, the beautiful and we bet you love it as much as we do!

Fiery Red
This colour is bold yet versatile. It can lend itself to a fun family diner, gutsy garage, elegant lounge room or even a powder room. Feel free to play with colour in a big (apple?!) or a small way to accent your home.

Beetroot Purple
Imagine this paired with Empire Yellow, Love Bird and some pop art pieces to create a space that is fresh, fun, and invigorating to be in. I’m getting Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein vibes as I dream of sitting on a neutral couch with throw pillows and accent pieces in the aforementioned tones. Even if you’re not ready to make a big change, a few pops of colour can be an easy way to update and change a space even seasonally!

Tangelo
Paired with its citrus family of yellows and greens, Tangelo would be a nice accent colour in neutral spaces. Keeping walls white and furniture muted, allows even a small accent to pack a big punch.

Peach Pink
Is this not a gorgeous colour for powder room walls? Bathrooms are small spaces therefore an easy DIY weekend painting project to busy yourself on a wet winter weekend. Update your hardware, add a new art piece and your bathroom will be number one.

Empire Yellow
This colour screams New York and it’s not hard to fall in love with this bright tone. Add to bright, white kitchen spaces for a fresh face or home offices to get your creative juices flowing!

Crystal Rose
This hue is the perfect pink to paint the dream room of any little princess (or prince!). Even a feature wall with neutrals on the remaining three gives a sense of whimsy and wonder. Think crystal chandelier and drawer pulls, white furniture and cabinetry, and the ideas for linens are endless!

Classic Green
As a mom, this colour screams Minecraft. As a wife, golf. As a gym goer, wheatgrass. It’s called a classic for a reason, and the possibilities are endless!

Love Bird
I have always loved this shade. It’s bright, it’s fresh and I find it quite timeless. This is one of those colours you can go big with. Try a love seat in a soft velvet or set of upholstered chairs in a mid-century modern dining room. For those wanting to take less of a risk, throw pillows, art, feature walls and vases will do the trick to brighten the blah!

Blue Perennial and Summer Song
These blues complement one another and your neutral colour palette. Pretty yet masculine enough to bring into the primary bedroom, ensuite or guestroom alike. It’s a colour that you won’t soon tire of and can be decorated with timeless pieces.

Skylight
This bright baby blue lends itself to the perfect nursery wall, add a few painted clouds and have it grow with your child as a nod to children’s favourite, Toy Story, or create your own serene space in any living, dining, bath or bedroom. From baby to beach, the ideas are there to make your own!

Vanilla Cream
Can we agree that this colour is indeed delicious? I think it will be a chameleon, ready to adapt to its surroundings looking pinker in some lights, and white in others. This is a true neutral, ready-to-rock a nursery, common spaces like entry and hallways, or a kitchen ready to be paired with any of the other members of this classic family.

Grey Lilac
Probably my favourite of all the colour lineup. Like the vanilla, its ability to change and adapt to different lighting and spaces will pull grey in some spaces, and more purple in others. I could paint an entire home in this colour, and yet have enough diversity of complimentary colours and design ideas to allow cohesion without copy. I am mentally repainting as we speak…

Leek Green and Macchiato
Maybe it is just the names, but these colours scream kitchen accents to me. Feature walls, tea towels, bakeware, the list goes on. Add some Vanilla Cream walls and you’re off to a tasty and rich combination!

Well, that’s it for NYC’s fashion trend forecasting. Have a favourite? Let us know in the comments section!

Signing off, and strangely craving a vanilla-infused macchiato, Brittany Huggins.
